US and China Trade War
The United States of America and China are in a trade war. A trade war is when countries impose taxes (called tariffs) on each other’s goods.
What Is Happening?
The US President, Donald Trump, recently increased taxes on Chinese goods coming into the US. China responded by increasing taxes on US goods coming into China. Which is verse versa.
How High Are the Taxes?
The US added a 50% tax on some Chinese goods. China responded by adding an 84% tax on some US goods.
Why Is This Happening?
Both countries are trying to protect their own industries and economies. The US wants to reduce its trade deficit with China, while China wants to protect its own businesses.
What Else Is Happening?
China also stopped doing business with some US companies and added some US companies to a list of “unreliable entities.” This means those companies can’t do business with China anymore.
What Next Is Going To Happen?
The trade war is ongoing, and it’s unclear how it will end. Both countries are trying to negotiate a deal, but so far, no agreement has been reached.
